Low Calorie Honey

Honey is a sweet, syrup like substance that the bees produce from the nectar of flowering plants. The bees collect the nectar, then eat it, digest it and eject it into the beehive to produce honey. Honey is stored in a wax-like structures called honeycombs, which humans collect through beekeeping (1Trusted Source). Many types of honey are available, varying depending on the Source of the plant, the method of extraction, and whether it is raw or pasteurized.

How do you make sugar-free honey?

The ingredients

  • Xanthan gum – thickens honey and helps make it breakable and sticky.
  • Water – You want the water to be warm, not boiling.
  • Brown sugar substitute – I used skewed brown sugar, but golden monk fruit can also be used. If you don’t have either on hand, you can use allulose.
  • Honey extract – the main ingredient! This extract gives off a strong honey flavor without needing bee pollen or honey!

Instructions

Add the xanthan gum and half of the warm water in a small bowl and whisk well until completely dissolved. Add the remaining water and brown sugar substitute in a small saucepan and set over medium heat. Once it starts to boil, add the xanthan gum mixture and let it simmer until it thickens.

Remove the pot from a heat and mix in the honey extract. Allow the honey to cool completely before transferring it to a sterilized jar or jar and storing it in the refrigerator until it thickens more.

Tips to make the best sugar-free honey

  • Don’t worry if your honey gets a little fluffy once you remove it from the stove.
  • Use a high-quality honey extract, as that makes a big difference. I prefer to use Laurent’s honey flavor as it does not dissipate over time.
  • To store honey in jars, you should sterilize them appropriately.
  • Storing and freezing low-carb honey
  • For storage: It is best to store honey in the refrigerator, covered. It will stay suitable for up to 4 weeks.
  • To freeze: Put leftover honey in a freezer-friendly container and store it in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Here are the Low-Calorie Honey Options

Sugar-free honey is an excellent alternative to regular honey; it is delicious and has a lower glycemic index. In addition, it’s made with xylitol, a natural keto-friendly sweetener. With only 25 calories per serving, it’s a great way to sweeten your food without breaking the keto diet.

2.      Allulose Honey Flavored Syrup

Have you ever wanted to sprinkle honey on pancakes but don’t want sugar? Then, this honey-flavored drink is just what you’re looking for! Zero carbs, zero calories, and all flavors! I am one of my favorite honey substitutes on the market right now.

3.      Wholesome Yum Keto Honey Substitute

Made with the proprietary blend of monk fruit extract, allulose, and tapioca fiber, this keto honey alternative has the same taste, texture, and color as natural honey. In addition, you can substitute it in a 1:1 ratio and still consume 15 calories and 0 grams of carbs per tablespoon.

Instructions on how to make low-calorie honey:

Take a small bowl and add half of the water with xanthan gum. Mix well until the xanthan gum is completely dissolved, then set aside.

In a saucepan, add brown sugar and the remaining water. Heat it over medium heat, constantly stirring, until the sugar dissolves.

Once the sugar has dissolved, add the xanthan gum mixture and whisk well.

Lift the pot from the heat and whisk in the honey extract. Let the mixture cool completely, then pour it into a bowl. Refrigerate until needed, and enjoy!

Tips for making low-carb honey:

You can use warm water to help the xanthan gum dissolve faster.

Add more water if you want the love to have a thinner consistency. If you want thicker texture, add a little water.

Do not use monk fruit extracts or erythritol in the recipe, as they spoil its texture.
